One of the founding myths of the war between religion and science is the religious persecution of Galileo and his argument for a heliocentric astronomy.
I call this a “myth” not because there was no conflict but because this story has taken on a life of its own. The truth of what happened with Galileo and the Church has much more nuance than what many popular discussions allow.
Philosopher and podcaster Peter Adamson from the History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps has done an episode of this event. I appreciated his take on this important event.
