My name is Stephen Bedard and I love history. I mean I really love history.
Having said that, I’m not a trained historian, or at least not exactly. It is a little known fact that I was accepted into the history program for my undergraduate degree. However, at the last minute I switched to business because I didn’t think I would get a job with a history degree. I didn’t get a job with a business degree either.
But I was able to use my undergrad degree to get into seminary. I ended up graduating with three master’s degrees and I’m currently a doctoral student.
Although most of my studies were in the area of the New Testament, I always came at the Bible from a historian’s perspective. The research skills I developed in my biblical studies help me in my historical research.
I need to tell you a little about myself so that you know where I’m coming from in this podcast. My day job is as a pastor in a local church. That means that there is a faith element to what I present.
Does this mean that I’m biased?
Absolutely, but no more biased than a person who belongs to a different religion or who comes at the material as an atheist. I believe it is important to state our bias and then roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Having said that, I have no problem pointing out where Christians have gone wrongs. There have some pretty brutal events in the history of the church. They do not get a pass from me just because I’m a pastor.
Whether you are a Christian or a non-Christian, I hope you get something out of this podcast.
I should also say that I am an Amazon Affiliate. I include links on this page and anything you buy through these links help me to keep this podcast going.
