What is the Latin Vulgate?

What language do you think of when you think of the Bible? You may think of the Hebrew or Greek. You may think of English or whatever your native language is.

But for many centuries, the Bible was thought of in terms of Latin, specifically the Latin Vulgate. This Bible was translated by Jerome.

A Latin Bible sounds rather fancy but it was called the Vulgate (related to “vulgar”) because Latin was the language of the people.
